LIFT Volunteers Summer 2024
Urban Ecology Center - Menomonee Valley
July 13th 11:45am - 2:00pm

We will assist with a Land Management project in Three Bridges Park. The park is a healthy habitat for the native plants and animals, educational resource for members, urban students and summer campers, and welcoming green space for all Milwaukee residents. We will help make this park the thriving place it is today!
Land management work does require volunteers to be able to kneel, bend, lift, and walk on
uneven terrain. If there are any members of your group who have physical limitations, please
let us know ahead of time so that we can do our best to accommodate them.
This volunteer experience will take place outside. Please dress for the weather, wear closed-toed shoes, and bring anything else that you need to be comfortable outdoors (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, water bottle).

All LIFT players, families, and friends are invited to attend! Please fill out the form below to sign up.

Fall 2019: JR's Pups-N-Stuff
"JR's Pups-N-Stuff is a local animal rescue that began with one goal in mind - to save animals from life threatening situations. That ideal has gotten us to where we are today. We've helped over 7000 dogs and 100 cats find forever homes and will continue to provide excellent foster and permanent homes to all future rescue dogs." In October, LIFT was fortunate to be able to help out at the rescue filing paperwork, creating adoption folders, and playing with and walking the rescue cats and dogs at that location.

Winter 2018: The Guest House of Milwaukee
The Guest House of Milwaukee provides shelter, housing, education, and services to Milwaukee's homeless who seek to transform their lives with dignity and purpose. The Guest House provides emergency shelter and transitional housing to adult men experiencing homelessness. They provide shelter to 86 men each night, and over 400 individuals each year. They also support over 300 individuals through case management living in permanent housing across Milwaukee as well as provide counseling clinic on site. In order to help and serve everyone in the community, The Guest House also hands out over 100 sandwiches a day to those in need. In February, LIFT players, coaches, parents, and friends raised $582 and made 297 sandwiches - including 100 full 4-piece bagged lunches and donated many needed items to the Guest House of Milwaukee.
Fall 2018: Next Door's Books for Kids
LIFT players, coaches, families, and friends helped do crafts and activities for kids, read with them in their classrooms, and helped them choose books to take home from the mobile library. We were excited to partner with Next Door Foundation and their Books for Kids program to help with a community event at COA Riverwest. The Next Door Foundation of Milwaukee supports the intellectual, physical and emotional development of children by partnering with their families for success in school and the community. Research shows that the number of books available to a child may surpass all other variables in predicting their long-term success in school. Since the program started in 1990, Next Door’s Books for Kids has collected and distributed close to 2 million books to children in Milwaukee.

Summer 2017: Miracle League
On July 13th, LIFT volunteered with the Miracle League of Milwaukee. Each LIFT player was paired with a friend to assist them on and off the field during a two inning game in which every player gets the chance to bat and score. The Miracle League of Milwaukee believes everyone deserves the chance to play baseball. They allow all children to play organized baseball, regardless of ability. Kids with special needs dress in uniforms, make plays in the field and round the bases, just like their peers in standard little leagues. We are excited for our third year of being "buddies"!
Spring 2017: Urban Ecology Center
On Saturday, May 6th from 9:30-11:00am, LIFT volunteers helped at the Urban Ecology Center and participated in the Land Stewardship Program. We worked outside to restore and preserve the Milwaukee Rotary Centennial Arboretum's natural habitat. The Arboretum is a healthy habitat for its native plants and animals, an educational resource for its members, urban students and summer campers, and a welcoming green space for all Milwaukee residents. We were excited to have this opportunity to get outside and enjoy nature for the day and contribute to the Urban Ecology's mission of fostering ecological understanding as inspiration for change, neighborhood by neighborhood.

Fall 2016: Girls On The Run
The mission of Girls On The Run is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and
confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
On November 13th, LIFT volunteered at GOTR's Fall 5K at one of their Cheer Posts helping to encourage GOTR participants along with their running buddies, families, and friends as community members run, walk or skip across the finish line with smiles and high fives!

The mission of The Guest House is to provide shelter, housing, education, and services to Milwaukee's homeless seeking to transform their lives with dignity and purpose. They have been helping people in Milwaukee overcome homelessness for over 30 years.
In Spring of 2016, all LIFT volunteers got an informational tour of The Guest House to learn all about its mission and about the people they serve before getting to work making sandwiches! In order to buy ingredients for our sandwich donations, we raised over $250 and made 205 sandwiches and complete bag lunches for the guests.

November & December 2015
Book Drive for the Next Door Foundation
Throughout our November and December season, LIFT players from all of our programs donated 186 books to the Next Door Foundation. Our books totaled $596 for Next Door!
Next Door’s Books for Kids program was established in 1990 with the hope that all children in Milwaukee’s central city, regardless of family income or education levels, could have books to call their own. Books for Kids distributes over 70,000 books each year for free to our early education students at Next Door and neighborhood families and teachers throughout the city.
